Effective Market Research Survey

The main purpose of carrying out an effective market research survey is to study buying habits of consumers, analyzing consumer view points as well as opinions. Companies have been spending thousands of dollars on market researches for years now to obtain valuable data pertaining to consumer wants. This is crucial when it comes to introducing new products and services in the market. Typically, surveys conducted on a specific target population are helpful in providing the companies with information which is critical to determine whether a particular product or service could bring business to them. To help such business owners for promoting new products and services, Webmyne has designed and developed MagicSurveyTool, which is a software solution for carrying out business market research surveys effectively.

Ensure for Quality Market Research

The most important consideration for any research survey is identification of the age and gender of the target market. And usually this begins with the pre-screening process that is aimed at weeding out respondents who do not fall within the scope of the study. This could be crucial for ensuring a qualitative market research. Remember certain products and services might only cater to a specific market segment based on level of education, total monthly income, area in which people live, regional languages, certain health disorders, etc.

With the information that is available through collection of relevant data companies are in a position to know if a particular product or service is going to create any impact on their target audience. This could be critical for predicting the success of products and services that are yet to be launched in the market. Additionally, it helps market research companies from suffering any kind of losses by investing in the wrong product or service. This is because to increase the profitability of your business it is essential for you to understand what the market actually needs and thinks.

MagicSurveyTool is a state-of-the-art market research survey software system which can be totally customized to the needs and requirements of your business. In addition, it is quite reasonable priced alongside other similar software products that offer the best and the latest in the industry.

    Ladies n Gentlemen Please help me with this Market Research stuff ? I need your suggestions on it.?
    Dear all i am doing my internship with a software company, which was initially providing customised packages of accounting, payroll and inventory management. The company has a strong presence in middle east with a brand name of FOCUS. It has now ventured into providing web enabled versions of these products for small to medium enterprises.My project is market research on the web enabled products of this organization which will be conducted online for their middle east based customers. My question is that wether this research is a kind of brand extension or a product extension. What questions areas should i focus to undersatnd the belief of customers in this company as a brand.

    • Anonymous says:

      Branding and product marketing are not always separate. If a brand carries several products under its banner then the recognition of the name of the brand which is sometimes the major corporation is what you want recognized. Sometimes its the individual product or the combination of the two like Ford Mustang.

      There are also levels of corporate branding such as AIG which is a multinational company that owns American General that in turn provides many different products.

      Don’t let other’s cynicism stop you from asking for help.

    What are the duties of Market Research Analyst?How the market research could be done? Any procedure to follow?
    Market Research, particularly in ERP marketing of software industry…

    • Anonymous says:

      Market Research, is actually a group of activities, defined more by purpose and scope than by a specific methodology or a series of duties.

      The basic question behind market research is . . Will they buy ? (The product, service or experience)

      In escence, this is the question behind every offer and commercial proposition, the question that fuels the balance of supply and demand in every market. So how do you go about conducting market research . ? That depends on exactly what it is you are proposing, and who’s your real target.

      Your goal as a market analyst is to look into every variation that motivates the potential customer, and to continue asking subsequent questions until you can construct a final VALUE PROPOSITION and a final MESSAGE.

      Rutinely you go through Questions like:

      Who will buy, at what price, with what options, in which locations, under what circumnstances will they switch or remain loyal to the buyng experience.

      There is no “fool proof” procedure to conduct market analysis because essentally each value proposition is different. Sitll there are a few simple guidelines to keep in mind:

      1) Your first step is to determine a break even value (exactly how much you need to sell to stay above board and be profitable) this shall be measured in $$ and in units.

      2) Once you know how many units you need to sell you must identify, who you think will be the most probable consumer group. This is simple but depends on what you are selling. It´s totally different to market pet grooming (for which almsot any knowlege on your neighbourhood is enough) than to market a presidential candidate. !

      3) Once you link your target volume to a consumer group or target segment then you will know what kind of market research tools you will need. In general, when starting out, smaller and simpler are always better. Focus groups are a good tool for scalable marketing, There is also direct interviews and open surveys.

      The best market research comes from experience think if you would buy than probably many others would too. Look at how some of the worlds Marketing ICONS were produced (the STAR WARS concept is a great example of experience marketing)

      4) develop a way to measure your progress, as you start collecting information from your target segment identify exactly what you will do, will you change your product design, will you change your sales pitch, your distribution “channel” Than turn the information into SALES.

      The biggest mistake un MR is to conduct the research and modify the VALUE PROPOSITION without actually impacting sales. Remember you are marketing for one reason, and that is to GROW your concept and GROW your business. this is first done through SALES. . !

    I have a great idea for a small software, what do I do next?
    I have a very good idea for a small software. I did some market research and received very positive results. My programming knowledge is very small (can write a Java greeter program) and to hire a developer I need funds, which I don’t have. I was going to learn Java but since I need to keep my full time and a half job, can’t really spend a lot of time, therefore it would take me a very long time to get where I need to be.
    Any help would be very appreciated.

      well dont know much , but i think there is already alot of competition as most companies do develeopment in bulgaria and romania , whose cost is similar to india and have the added advantage of european union, I personally think china is a bit cheaper than india and till some extent pakistan but becuase there is a huge language barrier that why its not very easy , marketing software while doing developement in small b cities like dehradun and merut is more cheaper than metropolies but talent supply is going to be an issue, in the end I would suggest you to have an extremely different product , as for most normal software. the develepors have already acheived critical mass needed to acheive low cost…

    Market price of support for business software?
    I need to know the market price on support of business software. I need this to argue towards one of my clients why I want to take a really high price for maintenance and support for the software my startup (with two employees) makes. My company creates software for business intelligence and provides a complete solution with statistics datawarehouse etc. I have already had a look at the company MySQL who take 5000$ for their premium service (since I am a startup with a lot fewer employees, this price is too low), so research for other small companies to see what they take. What I specifically need you to do is to research around, and give me a list in excel with the following columns:
    Name of company, link to list of prices, price per year of maintenance, price per hour of support (if provided).

    Please state your price and the number of companies you will provide this statistic for.

    Can anyone share their experiences being a contract software developer working in London?
    I’m a Canadian who has lived in Manchester since 2001 and I finish a Ph.D this fall. I’ve been a software engineer for over a decade now and I’ve worked on a number of research software projects. I’m thinking of trying to go back to doing industry work. I’d like to move down to London and I’m just wondering what the market for contractor programming is like. I’ve been building Java applications since 1997 and I don’t know how portable that is anymore. Which sectors of the software development market have promise? How do you find out whether a contracting outfit is dodgy or not? Does anyone have any advice in general on trying to find IT work in London? I got the impression that when the recession hit in 2001 the IT market slid. I’m not sure how accurate the claims are that more jobs are being outsourced abroad. Thoughts?

    • Anonymous says:

      Although not as good as pre-2000 the contract market has picked up alot and there are plenty contract Java development positions available in London, as long as you have some good recent experience and a desirable skill set.

      Best place to look for contracts is http://www.jobserve.co.uk. Have a search on there, you can gauge what skills are in demand and what the going rates are. Be warned that a lot of jobs posted on there are not real jobs, just CV grabbers from agencies.

      As for dealing with agents – don’t trust any of them! Have a look at http://www.itcontractor.com/Articles_IR35_News_Advice/advicearticles.asp?category=AA
      for some common agency tricks to avoid.

    how to make a DSS? what features could be included in a DSS?
    John has been doing market research for the software stores he is systematic in the way he approaches problems and as long used mathematical formulas to project sales and so on. Although his business has been doing well in the las t year and half john is getting too bogged down in backlogged orders to use the desicion support system you built for him . he has agreed to take over the manegment aspects of his shop so that can concentrate of artistic aspects.

    a what feartures could you include in a DSS to support john’s desicion making style? list 5 of them of them and explain in detail to support each feature.

    b how would you characterize john as a desicion maker?

    • Anonymous says:

      First of all, John should try to implement an information system in order to manage data, after all, a DSS should be focused on inventory, orders and back-orders, maybe the problem is related to a bad demand planning process, so maybe he would need to get a better forecast for future.

      As you suggest a DSS (with an IS), this software will lead him to a set of better choices, but it will not replace him in the decision maker role

    What are the job opportunities in educational software, such as selling, marketing, etc.?
    Before I research this, I wanted to ask the Yahoo! Answers community first.

    I am a fully credentialed special ed. teacher in mild/moderate disabilities in Southern California. I am currently pursuing my masters in Educational Therapy at one of the California State Universities.

    Because of my daughter’s vast software collection and my own internet knowledge, I am very familiar with many educational software programs as well as educational freeware websites.

    Can I use this knowledge as a part-time to full-time consultant/ corporate salesman? Let me add that I am also an experienced puppeteer who can build his own foam and cloth puppets for potential clients.

    Can anyone out there share any information on marketing educational software?

    • Anonymous says:

      YES, but alot of times those jobs are very cliquish and you have to “know” people! You can contact the software comapanies themselves and see if they have sales positions. Also, the big publishing companies like McGraw Hill, etc. may be interested in your services. If you don’t have networking contacts, call the HR Departments and find out about sales oppertunites.

      Another avenue is to set yourself up as a business and purchase the software wholesale and sell iton your own as a retailer. You will need to set up a DBA and get a sales tax number. Then you contact the software companies and ask about making wholesale purchases. This route will be easier to get into but riskier because you may need to invest in inventory first. Good LUck!

      The reason those jobs are in your country is because they pay allot less, and thus are becoming less available here. Means and Standard Deviation, Marketing Research analysis-HELP PLZ?
    I am analysing data that i have gathered for marketing research, i have clauclated the means and standard deviations using snap software, but i dont actaully understand what they mean?

    For example. question asked, “how much the viewers felt each of the feelings”, they answered on a rating scale- and i got these results>>

    Adventurous = Mean = 3.19 Std Deviation=1.35
    Interesting = Mean =2.84 Std Deviation=1.34
    Attentitive= Mean = 3.08 Std Deviation= 1.23

    Etc etc – So i know how many times that people said these words,, the above words were the top three, however what do the means and standard deviations tell me?

    I hope you can help me, im really worried with the dealine approaching, Thank you so much – best simplest answer will recieve full points -
    ps. so what do i judge the SD against, i mean how do i knwo its low or high compared to what? The mean?

    • Anonymous says:

      Std Deviation: Indicates how much variation there is in the ratings. A high SD indicates that people differed alot about that specific topic, whilst a low SD indicates that they mostly felt the same.
      Mean: Also the average, gives an idea of the general feeling the people has.
      Hope this helps, good luck

    What is the difference between market share and share price?
    I’m asking because I’m trying to do an assignment and I can’t find the vocabulary terms for the aforementioned.

    Here is the assignment.

    Using the Internet, research Microsoft in the software industry and AT&T in the telecommunications industry to compare and contrast their performance over the last five years. Compare the two companies with special reference to the economic and environmental factors affecting their business during this time.

    Examine how the following aspects of the company have changed over the last five years.

    Earnings
    Growth
    Share price

    • Anonymous says:

      Share price is the cost (dollars per share) or one share of stock in each company.

      Market share is the percent of the market that the company has. If you said Microsoft has 60% market share of operating systems then 60% of the operating systems in use and ones they sell.

    What’s the difference between an principal, owner, president, and CEO?
    …and which should be my job title?

    I’ve started a software-based research company by myself that I’ve recently formed into an LLC. I currently have no employees under me (but will within a year’s time, hopefully), and my target market are other organizations. Because of this, it’s important that I portray a professional image, which is why I thought putting “President/CEO” on my card would look best. BUT, I don’t know if “owner” would be more appropriate.

    Any feedback is appreciated!

    • Anonymous says:

      As a non public corporation (as I assume you haven’t issued any stock) you hold the office of President. CEO is a title normally reserved for the highest ranking executive in a publicly traded corporation. Not all CEO’s are owners however. The title owner and the title principal mean the same thing. Although a principal isn’t always 100% owner but at a minimum is the majority owner. What this all boils down to, is that your most appropriate title is President. Good luck to you!!

    I have My MS in Physics, currently work in software engineering, and am currently in the market for a more physics intensive position. I have a statistical analysis research project I focus on outside of work and do not quite know where to mention said research in My resume.

    Has Anyone else had a similar experience? Is current, outside-of-working-hours research typically placed with the professional experience, the education, given its own separate section, or something else altogether?

    Question about studying Software Engineering at university?
    I finish high school in less than a month, and I have applied for an undergraduate program in BE(Hons) specializing in software engineering because I want to get into the field of software development, or at most, I hope to get a job as an in-house software engineer at either an animation company like Pixar, or a game design company. I’ve done a lot of research on software engineering and I have an idea of the kind of work I will be doing. However, I’m just curious: will studying Software Engineering at university put me in a position in which I can make my own software, for my own uses, and to design my own web pages etc., because I hope to maybe use the skills I gain in Software engineering to help me accomplish my own goals, such as making software to help with my music production and designing unique web pages to market my music and my animations. I just don’t know; for creating software and designing computer solutions to my problems, is Software Engineering the best place to start, or would you recommend something else. Please, anyone with knowledge on this stuff, kindly share it with me. Thanks.

      You basically will learn various computer language in Software Engineering like Java, C++ (so you can make your own program), HTML, CSS (so you can make your own web site). You can choose animation and graphic design as an elective course when you major in software engineering. If you really want to learn about animation, I think you should take Graphic Design major, or probably computer animation major.

    I asked a question regarding the above some time ago and received
    some
    helpful replies, thanks.
    It seems that the programs divide into two price categories, the
    expensive

    (CellQuest, MacLAS, FCAP List, and

    Verity’s WinList for the Mac,

    not

    yet

    released)

    and the relatively inexpensive,

    namely FlowJo and FCAP Easy.

    We have looked at both of the latter since our facility is primarily
    PC
    based and we just wanted some additional packages for us Mac users,
    so
    can’t afford to spend a lot.
    We have been very impressed by FlowJo, from the point of view af
    flexible
    batch analysis, ease of use, well set up program and excellent
    support
    via
    the web site or email. We shall shortly be purchasing several copies
    (when
    we can arrange the funds, Adam!).
    For others with similar requirements I would recommend also having a
    look
    at FCAP Easy, it has a few other functions at a similar price but I
    have to
    say I didn’t find it easy to use and it didn’t really suit our
    purposes,
    but others may prefer it.
    The other solution of running WinMDI under Virtual PC or SoftWindows
    we
    also tried, and as others had warned us it was quite slow (on a
    7200/120
    PowerPC) and painfully slow printing. Also, while I still love the
    graphics
    of this program, the inability to save the workspace (FlowJo term) to
    come
    back to later is a major disadvantage now.

      This would be worthwhile if you were studying accounting. Almost every company use software now. Excel isn’t accounting software but I use dozens of spreadsheets a day. Quick books is very popular for tiny businesses. I learned it once to do a preschool’s books. It was pretty easy to learn and you might be able to use the software a month free or buy it and learn it. It is one of the most asked for skills. Timberline, Great Plains and Peach Tree would be harder to learn. Construction software often has bookkeeping but is heavy into the construction side.

      With your background, I would suggest you start your own MRC. Too many MRC’s are really bogus. Giving old out dated information, or information based on questionnaires given over the net to people who answer them haphazardly in hopes to make “easy” money.
      When you find a customer, do the research yourself and be sure the information is very current.
      In little time, word of mouth will get you going strong.

Can someone that has alot of experience with this give me your opinion on what is on the market that is user friendly but good quality software to put on her computer to help her get started and assist her to completion? Thanks!

    • Anonymous says:

      You will probably get as many answers as you have users for this question and most of us have tried more than one of the products. I have tried PAF, Legacy, Family Tree Maker and Roots Magic. Of those four, you can get a version of two them at no charge. All you have to do is go to their website and download the product. PAF is free http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.… Legacy is also free http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/ and has a user group on Rootsweb http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.softwa… where a user could get an answer to most any question within a day or so of asking….there could be others not sure about other user groups.

      There is good information in the genealogy community that Legacy has plans to be integrated with the LDS/Mormon site like Family Tree Makers is with Ancestry.com. What this will entail or how it will work remains to be seen but since the LDS site is free it could make Legacy software a good choice as the promise to keep the software free to existing users…that could mean paid subscribers only…again not sure of the specifics, however, the upgrade is about $35.00 to $39.00 depending on the options you choose. PAF will not be upgraded but there is no talk of it being discontinued either.

      If you need a physical gift for under the tree and can get to a Sam’s Club, they usually have a Family Tree Maker [latest version 2010] with some Ancestry.com free time…depending on the version and price[discounted] it varies from 60 days to one year. Some people love Ancestry.com and others, not so much. It really depends on experience, sometimes when people figure out that they have been researching the wrong ancestor because of non-sourced records they get frustrated and give up.

      There is a good tutorial for those who are new to family research at:
      http://rwguide.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ Make sure that you recommend the tutorial and the Yahoo!Ask genealogy section archive.

      Good luck.

    • Anonymous says:

      It would be useful, and to a limited extent it can and is done, but ultimately it is not possible.

      Most desktop and server PCs are Windows PCs, so obviously if your using a current version of Windows its a Windows PC, however Macs are also Windows PCs and desktop and server Linux (and general *nix) machines tend to Windows PCs.

      There are other hardware and architectures available, and getting software that runs on one architecture to run at a decent speed on a second is only possible where the hosted architecture is considerably less powerful than the host.

      Software from companies like Citrix, VMware and Microsoft (Hyper-V) allow several operating systems to be used simultaneously. Indeed Citrix value proposition is the ability to run any software on any computer anywhere.

    How to patent a software application?
    I have a software idea to make an Android App and I want to make money off of it (sell it on the Android Market). I was wondering what I need to do to protect this “invention” so that other people can’t simply copy it and sell it as their own? Do I need to patent it or copyright it? Is it even possible to protect software? If so, how much would it cost? Or is it even recommended?

    I have researched a lot and this application that I want to create has never been made nor talked about, it’s a completely new idea.

    Thanks.

    • Anonymous says:

      If all you want to do is protect yourself against someone making exact duplicates of your Ap code, then copyright is sufficient.

      If on the other hand, you want to stop other software developers from saying Ooooo thats a neat Ap, I should write something like that too… and then doing it, you need a patent.

      You can’t literally patent software. However, you can patent a method or process for doing something. So, If you can describe your Ap in those terms, you should try to get a patent.

      For example,

      A method of selecting a number randomly, the method comprising:
      receiving at least one signal from at least one accelerometer;
      comparing the at least one signal to at least one accelerometer signal threshold;
      displaying an animation of dice being shaken, a vigor of the displayed shaking being proportional to an amplitude of the at least one accelerometer signal, if the at least one signal is above the accelerometer threshold.
      integrate the at least one accelerometer signal over time, thereby determining a shake energy estimate;
      compare the at least one accelerometer signal to an end-shake threshold;
      determining a shake duration if the at least one accelerometer is below the end-shake threshold;
      determining a seed value based on the shake energy estimate and shake duration;
      input the seed value into a random number generator to generate a random number;
      normalize the generated random number to a range of values displayable on the animated dice;
      display an animation of the dice rolling on a surface and ending with the combination of dice displaying the normalized generated random number.
